Literary Analysis
Introductory Paragraph
- Text Reference (title and author)
- Introduce Context (background info)
- Claim or Thesis (the theory you decided to turn into a claim to prove; the meaning of the story you are presenting. This should be disputable. In other words, different people could have a different interpretation of the story)
Start with an universal theme (theory) about life and then transition to the text-based claim itself, focusing on the story you writing about.
Body Paragraphs
- Introduce the context of the example
- Use the most compelling evidence
- Provide evidence (quote, paraphrase,and/or summarize the text)
- Connect (explain the connection to the reason/claim)
To write the conclusion, show connections in at least one of these ways:
- Your thesis and emphasize why the claim and evidence matter
- Yourself and the life lesson you learned or realized
- The author's message
- Leave readers with something to think about
